Cod and Rockfish

Cod and Rockfish

Pacific Cod, lingcod and numerous rockfish are also a sought after target by the sport fisherman in Alaska. The yellow-eyed rockfish (commonly called a Red Snapper but different that the true Red Snapper of the southern waters) is a sought after prize as are the ling cod. Both are commonly caught while targeting halibut but many fishermen choose to go after them for their own sake.

These rockfish are being watched carefully by the scientific community to be sure that they don’t decline in numbers. They provide a tasty meal for those lucky enough to latch onto one.

Rockfish typically have a very small area that they call home and much luck is required to drop a hook in the right spot to land one of these prizes.
